The Beauty of Being There Even When You Can’t {A Review & Giveway}

I have both momma’s girls and daddy’s girls.  My momma’s girls don’t like to go to bed when I am not around to tuck them in even when their daddy does a fine job with prayers and stories and tickles.

Recordable Storybooks from DaySpring are a great solution to the occasional lack of momma at bedtime.  I can record my voice reading the books and even a sweet message to my girls.  It is a way for me to connect with them when I cannot be there.

The recordable books are just precious with cute pictures and sweet stories.  It’s very easy to record your voice reading the book.  All you need is a few minutes and a quiet room and you’re done.

The book “All Day Long with Jesus” teaches kids about how Jesus is near to us at all times not matter where we are or what we are doing.  Other titles in the collection are “Bedtime Prayers and Promises”, “I Love You Head to Toe”, and “God’s Christmas Promise.”

Are you starting to think about what you will give the kids in your life for Christmas this year?  Do you have any nieces, nephews, grandkids or other kids in your life that you are away from and you want a way to show them you care about them on a regular basis?  Recordable Storybooks from DaySpring would be a great gift for the kids you love that are separated from you by miles.  Even if you aren’t separated by miles but want a way to show kids you care about them these books would make a wonderful gift!

Want to win one? DaySpring is offering a free story book to one winner. Follow the instructions below to enter to win.  Please note that the winner will receive a code for a FREE Recordable Storybook but you must pay shipping to receive it.

Disclosure: I was sent a Recordable Storybook for free to review.  As always, my opinions are my own.

Quick Tip: Labels for Leftovers

How often do you pull leftovers out of the back of the fridge that you fully intended to eat and they have a layer of new green growth on them?  It can be so frustrating to waste food because you forget about it.

I discovered a very simple way to help with this problem.  I take brightly colored labels and write the name of the leftover item on them and then stick them where I can see it clearly on the side of the container.  This way you know what is in each container in the refrigerator and you won’t forget that you put it in there.  So when you ask yourself what you can eat for lunch and think you have to make something new you will see that there is leftover lasagna that you can eat. Now, if I can only get the kids to remember to use the labels when they put leftovers away…

Do you have a trick for identifying and remembering leftovers?

My New Favorite Clothing Store: Lands’ End Canvas

Several months back I somehow stumbled across Lands’ End Canvas.  I cannot tell you the excitment I felt as I clicked through pages and pages of clothing that I loved!  The colors, the styles, the fashion, oh my!  I could hardly contain myself.  Fortunately my budget lent itself to a shopping spree at the moment and I ordered some of my favorites.

 I was thrilled to receive them and try everything on.  I half expected that the clothes would have looked great online but that I would have to return half of them because of the way that they fit.  Can you believe that every single item fit great?!  It really helps that on the site there are reviews from real people that talk about the fit of each item.

A few weeks later I was shocked (jaw on the floor) to get a handwritten note in my mail box thanking me for my purchase and letting me know that they were there for any questions I had or anything I needed!  Really?!  Who does that?  That is amazing customer service and I knew I had stumbled on something great.

Since that time I have placed a couple more orders with Lands’ End Canvas.  Each time I get quality clothing for myself and/or my husband and I have not had to return anything yet.  If I ever found myself needing to make a return I am convinced that it would be an easy process.

The items I have purchased have held up beautifully through washing and are my favorite pieces in my wardrobe right now.  Each one is comforable and classy at the same time.

I must also share that Lands’ End Canvas has great sales too! The only problem with the sales is that I have found that some of the cutest stuff sells out very quickly when it is put up on the site. So don’t wait to get what you love or it may be gone.

Do you love Lands’ End Canvas too?  What’s your favorite look from this this Fall?

Disclosure: I received no compensation for this post.  I just love Lands’ End Canvas that much!

Pretty Pushers: The Birthing Gown You’ll Be Happy to Put On

When you first arrive to the hospital to have a baby the first thing they do is tell you to change into a gown.  Whoever designed those hospital gowns must have had the goal of making them the most unattractive, unflattering, blandest form of clothing {if you can even call it that} ever.  As ugly as they are though, they serve a purpose.

I have given birth 6 times both in a hospital and a birth center. When I gave birth in a birthing center I honestly missed having a gown to put on.  After all, they have holes in all the right places and do make it easy to be poked, prodded and, well, give birth.

I Just recently came across Pretty Pushers.  No one was in the room but I actually found myself saying out loud “What a brilliant idea!”  I absolutely would have had one of these when I was pregnant to use in place of a hospital gown or the t-shirt I used at the birthing center.

 These beautiful gowns {I feel weird using the word beautiful when describing a birthing gown} have a frontal opening to allow for fetal monitors, a low-cut back to allow for epidural access if necessary and adjustable tie closures.  You can wear it and then dispose of it.  Read about why they recommend disposing of the gown after giving birth here.
 These gowns are 100% cotton and they even have an organic cotton version.  They start at $24 and go up to $44.  Check out Pretty Pushers to see all of the designs and to order.  Happy Pushing!

Mommy Makeover… Yes Please!

 {before}
{after}
I don’t need to tell you how busy moms are. I’m sure if you are reading this you already know how little time you have left to yourself at the end of the day.  I am in the same boat.  I stay busy with my 6 kids and, while presenting myself well is pretty important to me, sometimes life just gets in the way.
I hadn’t found someone I loved to do my hair since I moved 2 years ago and let’s just say my “I’m growing my hair out” excuse was getting old.  When I saw that Milk and Cuddles was hosting a Makeover Giveaway I jumped at the chance to enter.  Surprisingly I won! I was so excited and wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to make a change but wasn’t sure what I wanted.
The giveaway was for for a haircut, color and makeup application at Indira Salon an Aveda Salon in Carrollton, Texas.  I made an appointment with Veronica and told her my thoughts on what I thought I wanted.  She was amazing!  She advised me on what to do for my face shape and updating my style.  She did a beautiful job.  So beautiful that my husband about flipped.  He loves it and ha been complimenting me on it ever since.
So why am I sharing about my makeover here?  Because I think all of us mom can use a reminder to take care of ourselves and take time to do thing that help us to feel beautiful.  It’s good for you, good for your marriage and good for your kids to see too!
If you live in the DFW area visit Indira Salon and tell them I sent you! You will be happy you did!
