Give Your Husband a Valentines Gift He Won’t Soon Forget

Moms, do you need a great gift idea for your man that will knock his socks off?  Last year I did a very brave thing (I say brave because boy, was I nervous!) and went and had boudoir pictures taken.  Several of my friends have said they never saw me as the sort who would do that but I knew my husband would love them.  After all, they were for his eyes only (well, except for the two that the photographer convinced me were appropriate for our bedroom wall).

My husband has not stopped thanking me for the pictures!  He said it was about the best gift ever!

So I am going to convince you to do the same thing or something similar to add some spice to your marriage.  Here are what I thought my excuses were and how they were dispelled.

  1. “I am not back to my pre-baby goal weight and I should wait until I look amazing to do them.”  Not so!  My photographer was amazing and featured my best assets and touched up in places that needed it. That doesn’t mean she made me look skinnier or anything but I left thinking “Wow, I didn’t know I looked so hot!”  A good photographer knows how to bring out the best in you.
  2. “I don’t want to disrobe in front of anyone, not even if they are used to it!” Wow, I found the most amazing photographer who made me feel so comfortable and she had a list of what she wouldn’t do which was exactly my list of what I wouldn’t do.  She was super classy and made sure the pictures were classy and not at all slutty.  Talk to your photographer, tell her what you are comfortable with and what you are not okay with.
  3. “I don’t know what to wear.” Um, this one is easy, really.  What does your husband like?  Lingerie is a good choice.  My photographer recommended a bustier.  You could even go with jeans and a nice bra.  Think about what he will like the most.  Maybe even pull out (and dust off) your honeymoon attire (assuming it still fits).
  4. “I don’t have the money right now.”  Well, this can be a problem but only if you don’t have  a good friend who is handy with a camera.  My photographer actually shared that she got started taking boudoir pictures by photographing friends during a girls night out.  It turned into a glamor session and their husbands loved the resulting pictures.  So grab a friend (one you feel really comfortable with), come up with a plan (place, setting), and have her shoot away.  With digital photography and photo editing software you can come up with some pretty great photos.  If you want prints you will need to be mindful of who you have print them (unless you have a good printer to print them yourself).  Choose a printer that has a good reputation with other photographers.  They can usually be trusted with your pictures.

I choose to surprise my husband when I had my pictures taken.  He had no idea until I gave them to him on Valentines Day.  Not only did he love them but I did to.  It helped me to see myself in a new light.

I took time leading up to the pictures to invest in myself (giving myself a manicure and pedicure, an at home facial, learning a glamorous new way to apply makeup, getting my hair done, etc…) and it made me realize that I didn’t spend enough time taking care of myself for me or for him.  So it was a win win for both of us.

Let me know if you decide to do it!  I think you’ll love the experience.  Occasionally I see deals for boudoir photos on Groupon or Living Social.  They are often good deals but make sure you look into the photographer first, ask all of your questions and make sure you feel comfortable with them.

Have fun!!

Document Your Pregnancy With a Beautiful Photo Book

I love this Expecting Baby Journal from Paper Coterie!  Most pregnancy journals and calendars have cutsie designs and blanks that you fill in.  This one is personalized with your own photos and text that you enter in online and then a completed book is mailed to you.  It is best to complete it after baby arrives but would be a forever way to remember the details of your pregnancy and delivery.

I may just go back and make one for each of my kids. Think of what a neat gift it would be for them to have once they are grown and having their own children.

Right now you can get one for 50% off through February 5th, 2012.  That makes the 7 x 5 book $11 or the 11.5 x 8.5 only $16.  Pretty amazing deal!

Favorite Gift Finds at BrookStone

I had the privilege a couple weeks ago of attending a blogger event at a local Brookstone store.  I always enjoy browsing Brookstone and checking out all of their latest items.  This time I went with Christmas gifts in mind and was on the hunt for what I thought would make great gifts.  Here are my top Brookstone gift recommendations:

I was impressed with this small wireless speaker that you can pair with your iPod or phone.  You can move this speaker around with you and listen to your favorite music.  It sounded great and is a great price at $99.99
This towel warmer sits in your bathroom and will warm up to 2 large bath towels in about 10 minutes.  Wouldn’t it be nice to step out of the shower on a cold morning to a nice warm towel?
This cube of magnetic balls makes for addicting play.  You can make all kinds of shapes with these strong magnets.  This is a great gift for anyone who likes to create or build.

I got to try this out in Brookstone and thought this was really useful.  The body bean has an insert that you can heat up to use on sore or painful areas or just to warm you up.  It’s better than a hot water bottle. Plug it in for 15 minutes to heat it up, unplug it and it’s ready to use.

From what I understand these are pretty hot right now.  Teens and adults alike are flying these indoors and out with their iPads and iPhones as well as Android-based phones and tablets. The on-board cameras (one forward facing, one facing down) let you see in real time what the pilot sees as you complete complex flight maneuvers.  Oh, and if you get one, girls won’t be able to resist being near you as shown in the photo (sorry I couldn’t resist).
iConvert Video Converter

This caught  my eye because I have a basket full of old videos sitting around that really need to be converted to a digital format.  For only $99 I can convert old VHS, Beta, and other analog formats to digital SD memory cards.  Find this in a Brookstone store as I could not find it available online.

Have you ever watched a digital frame in person?  It is almost addicting to watch all of the pictures cycle through.  These make great presents for grandparents. Load them up with the best pictures of the grandkids and it’s ready to go.
Know someone who always has their laptop in their lap?  This e-Pad would make a great gift for them.  It  gives them a comfortable cushion and a flat surface to type on.  The e-Pad comes with speakers or without.
I received one of these as a gift from the blogger event I went to and I have really enjoyed using it.  It is made with the super soft n•a•p material and gently vibrates.  I find it to be very relaxing.
Check out these great gifts and more at Brookstone online or in stores. Use code ELF25 and get 25% off online (thanks Kim!).

Mommy Kudos Gift Guide Day 21

Day 21
Moms

A Couple months ago I purchased a Personalized Family Name print from hope ink.   I just love it!  It has our last name and all of our first names under it along with the scripture “above all, love each other deeply.”  It is just beautiful and my kids love it too.  It has always been important to me to emphasize our family identity and love for each other and this print helps make that statement for us.
hope ink. has several other beautiful and modern prints that are encouraging reminders to be placed throughout your home.  I would encourage you to visit the hope ink. Etsy shop and see all of the wonderful designs.

Babies

Skip Hop has new designs for their Zoo line of bibs, backpacks, lunchboxes, and eating sets.  They are seriously cute and would be great gifts for babies and toddlers!Ladybug

Kids

I have been seeing these P’kolino Book Buggees around the internet lately and they didn’t really grab my attention until I saw them in person.  They come in several different styles such as a firetruck, school bus, princess crown and more.  But these cute little Buggees have wheels and a cord you can pull to bring it with you.  They are perfect for kids that are book lovers.  Tuck in a few books and a cuddly stuffed animal and your book worm will be thrilled.  You may need to see these Buggees in person like I did, but once you do I am pretty sure you’ll agree they are very cute and book loving kids will be quite happy with them.

The Teach Me Time! Talking Alarm Clock and Nightlight
is a creative and well thought out alarm clock that teaches your children time and it’s color-changing nightlight teaches kids to stay in bed until it’s Ok to wake; parents program “Ok to wake” time, when glow changes from yellow to green.  In my opinion that is brilliant!  Clock is white with interchangeable blue, pink, and yellow bezels; face display options, volume, and brightness are adjustable

I list this as a gift idea because my kids ask for alarm clocks and the idea that it is a new gift and you use it in a different way than a traditional alarm clock helps make it exciting and helps them want to follow the color changing Ok to wake idea.
